Why does Zoning equate to Character?
A – Because so far in this precinct’s long and slowly evolved history, page our single family detached ZONING has kept the scale, visit this land use and pace of building within check; to that of single family homes built or renovated by residents one at a time with the intent to live amongst their neighbours with respect for each other. Zoning has ensured an EVOLUTION over a REVOLUTION.
It’s within this principal we’ve come to this outcome. We’ve achieved a beautiful, unique, eclectic and highly charactered place to live.
Save your zoning, and keep your character.
Zoning truly does equal character. In the end, architectural features or any other æsthetic quality does not ultimately define character in a residential neighbourhood. The POPULATION DENSITY defines, first & foremost, the character and quality-of-life in any neighbourhood. Zoning dictates dwelling types & sizes, which dictates the population density. Change the zoning—or change the population density—and you simply change (destroy) the character, there is never a compromise. The detached family homes of Burlington is what makes it a top-rated mid-size city, for countless years. I do not live in this neighbourhood but I am vehemently against the forced incremental transformation of a city like Burlington. Sustainability begins with sustainable populations… and saving your zoning.
